US Treasury Secretary Menuchin said today that President Trump has authorized officials to draft a “major” sanctions against Turkey, which are intended to prevent Turkey from launching further offensive against northern Syria, but Emphasize that the new measures have not yet started.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told the White House media that Trump will sign an executive order to approve the “new major sanctions authorization,” but stressed that these measures have not yet been “launched” and will be implemented when necessary.
Manuchin said: “These sanctions are powerful. We hope that they will not be used, but we can stop the Turkish economy once it is necessary.”
Menuchin said that these sanctions can be targeted at anyone involved in the Turkish government.
Menuchin said that Trump is concerned that Turkey may target civilians, private infrastructure, ethnic minorities or minority religious groups, and hopes that Turkey cannot “allow any Islamic State (IS) fighters to escape.”
