Turkey today invaded the north of Syria. US President Trump criticized this as a “bad idea”, saying that the United States does not support it and asked Turkey to protect religious minorities.
Trump’s withdrawal from the US military in northern Syria before he sent troops to Turkey was interpreted as agreeing to Turkey attacking local Kurdish militia allied with the United States. But he insisted in a statement issued by the White House today that the United States “does not recognize this attack.”
He added: “Turkey is committed to protecting civilians, protecting religious minorities, including Christians, and ensuring that humanitarian crises do not occur, and we will keep them committed.”
